Pancake Day @ Broadford Primary

At Broadford our pupils went the extra mile with their Pancake Day celebrations by making their own batter. Perhaps that is why the pancakes were so easy to get airbourne! With a little help from Mrs Purse, Leo Holloway (aged 6) and Alfie Pilcher (aged 6) managed to flip their pancake a record 6 times!
"It tasted delicious. Chocolate spread and raspberry sauce... amazing!" - Leo
All of the children in the Nursery, Reception and Year 1 classes managed to have a go at making their own pancakes, ensuring that this year was the biggest Shrove Tuesday celebration ever at Broadford.

"Breaking eggs, whisking batter and flipping pancakes was a great way to inspire the children's writing. The descriptions they produced after wards were full of WOW words delicious, tasty, tempting, sensational. A very successful afternoon of cooking and Literacy!" - Mr Drakes

So, how do you eat yours?

More Bronze Trackers Completed

Congratulations to the latest clutch of pupils who have managed to complete their Bronze Trackers. All have worked very hard to earn the 20 merits required to complete their first tracker; as a result they can now proceed to Silver.

The incentive now is to earn the Silver Pencil that is given away for reaching 15 Silver merits. Keep on going, it's almost in reach!

Bronze Tracker pupils: Tommy T, Bethany R, Donovan W, Tyler L, Emma B and Faye C

As we move towards the end of the Spring term we know that we are getting very close to having the first pupil to complete their Silver tracker and make it to Gold... but who will be first?

Joskos Feedback About Broadford Pupils

Recently we hosted Nick Madhavji - the Managing Director of Joskos. He came to do two sponsorship related photo shoots so that they could showcase our children in their internal press. Following the visit he had the following things to say about our pupils:

"During the photo sessions the children were extremely well behaved, focused and obviously proud ambassadors of their fantastic school. They bowled me over so much that we wanted to reward them for their show of excellence."

We are very pleased at the long term relationship we are establishing with Joskos, and how they have so enthusiastically supported the school. Everyone who has had contact with the school this year has left singing the praises of our children... and who can blame them.

Dress As A Book Character - Thursday 1st March

Literacy Week – Dress as a Book Character

Next week is Literacy Week, which leads up to World Book Day on Thursday 1st March. To celebrate the event, we shall be holding a ‘Dress As A Book Character’ competition on that day.

There is no donation required for dressing up, it is simply to celebrate World Book Day and to inspire the children's interest in reading.

Your children can dress up as a character from their favourite book and try to win a fantastic prize. In each Phase group (Nursery & Reception, Year 1&2, Year 3&4 and Year 5&6) there will be a winner and runners up prize. Even the staff will be taking part!

We look forward to a week of exciting Literacy themed activities and to seeing the children’s amazing costumes!

Open Day for Year 1-6

Year 5&6 Road Safety Workshop

Today our Year 5&6 pupils benefitted from an excellent theatre workshop called 'Now You See Me; Now You Don't'

The production is the story of an 11 year old boy called Aaron who is knocked down by a car coming home from school.

The play focused on encouraging our older pupils to prepare themselves for secondary school and understand that they have increasing control over their own and other people's safety.

By taking part in the session today we hope that our pupils will have:
  • Increased their knowledge about key road safety messages (the importance of being seen, making eye contact, being focussed)
  • Improved their understanding of the different factors that converge in causing an ‘accident’
  • Improved young people’s preparation for secondary school and the longer journeys that face them as they get older.
  • Become more aware of the need to be alert to other people’s mistakes.
Developed with and for young people by Camden Public Safety Team and Immediate Theatre. Young people were involved throughout the creative process. Supported by Transport for London.

"I can't believe what happened to Aaron... I won't make that mistake when I cross the road!" Hadoram - Year 6

"The ending was amazing. I didn't expect it to finish like that" Alfie - Year 6

Fantasy League Update!

After an incredible run at the summit of the Broadford Fantasy League, Miss Tynan has been toppled. For weeks, Mr Trezise has had her in his sights. Many hours of sleep have been lost to endless tinkering with his team to get the perfect combination... but it has all been worth it. Mr Trezise now has 255 points, to Miss Tynan's 243! Mr Drakes has failed to create any magic. Instead he slumps to 6th - more Villas Boas than Mancini.

Who is the best performing pupil? Alex (Year 6) is still the best pupil in the league with an impressive tally of 222, while Yinka (Year 4) is slightly behind on 206.

There are still several matches to go before the end of the month, so check your transfers.
